End of Year Move-Out Instructions
Review the following instructions before leaving for the spring semester. Reach out to your House Manager or the Co-Op at 814.237.8800 or info@nittanyco-op.org with any questions.
1. Clean and prep your room for summer break:
First steps:
Prepare for Summer Break:
First steps:
- Clean and empty your room:
- Remove and dispose of all trash
- Clean out bedroom refrigerators
- Remove personal belongings from room
- Or move belongings to the designated storage area (if allowed by your chapter)
- Return all furniture taken from common areas
- Prepare room for summer break:
- Turn off bedroom lights and ceiling fan
- Set bedroom thermostat to 65 (if applicable)
- Close and lock room windows
- Close and lock the door
- Turn off, unplug, and remove all air conditioner units from the window
- Move to the middle of the room with all personal belongs
- A $50 fee will be assessed for the removal of any window unit that is left in the window of your room
- If necessary, complete the Work Order Request form at the bottom of this page
- Turn-in your room key (instructions below)
Prepare for Summer Break:
Avoid unnecessary charges against your security deposit by making sure you:
- Only leave items in your designated storage area. Not sure where this is? Ask the Co-Op or your House Leadership.
- The Co-Op is not responsible for personal belongings that are unmarked and/or left in areas outside your House-designated storage area
- Any items NOT properly stored, marked or given approval by Fraternity leadership to be left behind will be considered unwanted and will be removed along with any remaining trash and clutter during the trash-out process and charged accordingly
- If your alumni allow items to remain in rooms over summer break: move large items and furniture that will be used next year 1 foot away from the wall, and mark with the individual’s name
- Why is this important? Over the summer we complete larger projects like repairing and painting ceilings and walls, or renovating rooms. Moving large items away from the wall and marking them with your name helps ensure that nothing is damaged or accidentally thrown away
- Turn off, unplug, and remove all air conditioner units from the window
- A $50 fee will be assessed for the removal of any window unit that is left in the window of your room
2. Prepare your house common areas for break:
- Remove and dispose of all perishable food from the kitchen refrigerator (e.g., dairy products, meat/poultry/fish, produce).
- There is a chance your refrigerator will be unplugged over the summer break; do not leave any food in the refrigerator unless instructed by your alumni or landlord
- Make sure all common area furniture is returned to the common area
- Ensure all common area windows are closed and locked
- Lock all common area doors
3. Return your room key:
- Room keys and house fobs (if applicable) must be returned BEFORE you leave for the semester
- Return your key to the:
- marked, metal key box in your house common room
- Co-Op Office: 226 E. Nittany Ave. During non-business hours please return your key to the black metal lockbox on our front porch
- The key box will be located in a common area, or will be kept with your House Manager
- Not sure where the box is? Reach out to the Co-Op or your House Manager
How to return your key:
- Grab an envelope from the stack next to the metal box
- Got one? Great. Write your name and room number on it
- Place your key in the envelope and seal it
- Put the envelope (with your key in it) in the box
- Afraid someone will steal your key? It’s unlikely, but stranger things have happened. You can also return your key (in the marked envelope) directly to the Co-Op office
- Please do not combine your key with your roommate’s key in the same envelope
Key return notes:
- Nittany Co-Op tracks who has and who has NOT returned keys. Return your key to avoid being charged for a key replacement.
- You may give your key to someone else to return for you, but you remain responsible for that key until receipt is documented by the Co-Op
- New room keys for the Fall semester will be distributed through Nittany Co-Op during the Move-In weekend prior to the start of your next semester
- If you are planning to move out prior to finals week please return your key to the Nittany Co-Op office located at 226 E. Nittany Ave, State College. Our office is open Monday-Friday from 9 am – 4 pm. Please contact our office at 814.237.8800 or info@nittanyco-op.org with any questions or to arrange an alternative time to return your key.
